I skivskörden för oktober dök det upp en platta med krigiskt omslag ifrån franska Season of Mist. MEZZERSCHMITTS debut slog ner som en bomb i min cd. Det föll sig naturligt att kontakta Imperiet/herr Schmitt för att diskutera visionen som knäcker George Orwells 1984 totalt

Guten Tag Herr Schmitt (gitarr, sång, bas), wo findet ihr Hauptmann Hammer (trummor) und Oberleutenatnt LS (keyboards)?
(Norrmannen och svensken övergår sedan till engelska…)
- De är excellenta musiker som alltid funnits i min närhet. De passar även pga sin teknik och stil.

Varför tillkom militärtitlarna och mardrömsimperiet?
- Imperiet är ett resultat av så mycket, börjar Herr Schmitt. Jag skulle kunna arbeta med ett annat scenario men aggressionen och extremismen skulle gå förlorad. Jag kallar egentligen inte myndigheterna specifikt för imperiet men allt baseras på saker som kan hända. Därutöver handlar det om saker som "de" gjort emot mig. Jag antar att det inte är avlägset ifrån George Orwells 1984. Men istället för ansiktet på skärmen, storebror, så materialiserar sig systemet istället i Herr Schmitt. Den ändlösa ilska som ligger i denna disc är också en följd av mina dåvarande personliga svårigheter. Så i min frustrerade hjärna bildades MEZZERSCHMITT -imperiet, en fasansfull framtidsvision. Det var en lättnad att släppa denna MCD, det gav mig distans till vad som hänt. Det var som en slags exorcism, hehe.

Det låter annorlunda men ärligt, undrar om det var lika ärligt att sjunga på tyska?
- Att ha texter på tyska var en tanke som slog mig under låtskrivandet. - Wow, varför inte sjunga på tyska också? - det var en bra idé. Et finns inget annat språk som är så maskinellt och kallt. Det är verkligen auktoritärt och diktatoriskt. Det passade till konceptet och bandnamnet samt var både utmanande och passande.

Minst sagt utmanande ja, vem minns inte de fasansfulla lektionerna i tyska? Vad blir det härnäst då, skivbolaget utlovar en fortsättning

Del två
Herr Schmitt berättar att nästa platta baseras på MEZZERSCHMITT-imperiet. Det motoriserade och förslavande imperiet med "den store diktatorn" Herr Schmitt. Det kommer att handla om den nya världen, hans regim, byggandet av den och mekanismerna bakom den. "Weltherrschaft" handlar om förstörandet av vad som är, uppföljaren kommer att handla om starten av maskineriet/imperiet.

Vad har MEZZERSCHMITT för budskap Herr Schmitt?
- Det handlar om ett koncept så uppdraget kan tolkas individuellt, inleder norrmannen. I grund och botten är det en varning för vad som kan inträffa. Dessutom var det en sorts rening för mig. Jag minns att jag kände mig lättad i sista skriket i sista låten. Allt är dock fiktion, det skulle kunna vara en parallell till Oceania.

Bandet
Bandmedlemmarna i MEZZERSCHMITT är bakom förklädnaderna tre "höjdare" inom den norska black metalscenen. Var finns inspirationen och drivkraften? Eller är det en flykt undan förväntningarna på den "ordinarie" musiken?
- Det är inte speciellt traditionellt norskt nej, men det är ett uttryckssätt och inte en fråga om musikalisk påverkan. Åtminstone inte för mig.

Herr Schmitt berättar vidare att han ser projektet som konst. Ett möte mellan musikaliska och symboliska paralleller som skapats för att ge en känsla av avsky och rädsla. Det är inte alls ett politiskt eller i någon form totalitärt budskap utan ett vredesuttryck mot dessa avarter. Han ser sig som en artist som flyttar gränser, som en målare eller skulptör. Folk som inte förstår bildmaterialet är det verkliga hotet enligt Herr Schmitt.

År 2005
Vad gör då denne visionäre konstnär 2005?
- Bra fråga, skrattar mitt intervjuoffer.

Han tror att hans musik kommer att vara ganska likartad men att världen kan vara närmre Hr Schmitts vision, att storebror kan vara den nye guden.

För sin egen del hoppas han leva i harmoni med sin flickvän utan samhällets materialistiska krav. Han försöker komma ifrån den irrationalism som han anser gör oss människor så ytliga och ofullständiga.

Herr Schmitt avslutar med ett filosofiskt budskap till fansen;
- Maskineriet är en spegel, ju större makt som getts - ju större blir belöningen. Känn draget av extremism nerför ryggen. Var hälsade ni sanna maskinister i MEZZERSCHMITT-imperiet!

In the disc harvest of October there was an album from the French company Season of Mist with a belligerent cover. MEZZERSCHMITTS debut struck like a grenade in my CD. It felt very natural to contact the Empire/Herr Schmitt to discuss the vision that puts George Orwell´s 1984 in the shadow

Herr Schmitt (guitars, vocals, bass), wie findet Ihr Haubtman Hammer (drums) and Oberleutenant LS (keyboards)? The Norwegian and the Swede then proceeds in English...
- Hauptmann Hammer and Oberleutenant LS has always been a part of my surroundings. Two excellent musicians who fitted perfect in the concept due to their techniques and
styles.

Why the military titles and the nightmare concept?
Well, the Empire is an result of many things. I could do it in another wrapping, but the aggression/extremity would cease, I guess. I don't call the authorities specifically for the Empire(as I think you mean..?), but it is based on things that might as well could come true, and further on things that "they" have done to me. I guess this concept isn't that far from George Orwell`s 1984.But instead of the face on the screen, Big Brother, the "order" is materialised through Herr Schmitt in a way. The infinite anger which lies in this recording is also a consequence of my personal difficulties at that time. So, out of my frustrated mind arouse the Mezzerschmitt Empire, an awful futuristic vision.. It has been very relieving to release this MCD, it was something I had to do to get things on distance. Instead of ending up with shrinks/psychiatrists without any relevance and insight whatsoever, I released it through my music. Like an exorcism in a way, he-he.

Part two
What will follow after this first part of the play? Will there be any live gigs? The next album is based on the Mezzerschmitt Empire. The "motorized" and slave bound Empire with the head-dictator; Herr Schmitt. It will deal with the "new world", his regime. The building of it and the mechanism behind it. Whereas "Weltherrschaft" mainly deals with the destruction of what is (Siren-attack-invasion-destruction-ruins), the follow up will be the raising of the Machine/Empire.

What is MEZZERSCHMITTS message Herr Schmitt?
How would you describe your mission? Is your focus on Europe or on the States? It is a concept, so the mission will be kind of individual interpretations I guess, but in its elemental aspect, it's a warning of what could be. It also worked as a cleansing process for me at that time. I remember the last song, the last scream, I was kind a relieved, getting free of negativity(well, some of it anyway, ha).The focus is fiction, nor Europe or the States. It could just as well be a parallel to Oceania.

The band
Behind the disguises hides three "big shots" of the Norwegian Black metal scene. Where's the inspiration, the driving force? Or is it just an escape from the expectations on their "everyday music"?
- No, its not traditionally Norwegian, but one has to realise that this is an expression, not under any musical influence, at least for me. I see this as art, where both the music and the symbolic "parallels" are created to give it that disgusting/fearsome feeling. I'm using what others fear, in a way. Not politically, as you certainly know, but as an expressi0n of the hatred and anger this stands for. As an artist, I feel like I'm a part of the "pushers of boundaries" in a
way. Like painters or sculptors are, you know. To create images/visions, ideas and to push the boundaries. The people who doesn't understand this, they are the real threat!

Is this just another project to achieve more musical freedom or a new start for three black metal-ists that's grown tired of traditional black metal? Yes, its more freedom for me. I hate being controlled within a square. I express, and because I'm extreme, I therefore push the boundaries. It's an artists right and mission.

What will you do in 2005?
- He-he. Good question. I don't think I will do that much different than what I do these days, but maybe Herr Schmitt`s vision/world will be close. Herr Schmitt`s 2005 could be(once again) Orwell`s 1984. Who knows. Maybe Big Brother is the new god. I will hopefully be far away in some foreign country, living in harmony with my girlfriend without the materialistic aspect of this society. I have never been a materialist my self. Its just things. The real experience is to get past the irrationality that makes us so shallow, so incomplete.

Herr Schmitt leaves me with a message to the fans;
The machine is a mirror, the greater the power given, the greater the reward. Feel the rush of the extremity down your spine. All Hail Thee, the true machinists of the MEZZERSCHMITT Empire!
