Det kanadensiska bandet Horde Of Worms är nu inne på sin tredje utgivning med Mcd:n "Wormageddon". Jag gjorde en intervju med bandmedlemmen Alexander Erhardt för att kolla vad som händer där på andra sidan Atlanten.

Skulle du först kunna berätta för de läsare som inte har hört Horde Of Worms lite om bandets historia och vad för slags musik ni spelar?

Alexander - Horde Of Worms grundades våren 1996 av mig själv på gitarr och programmering och Brent Assoun på gitarr. Då vi repeterade låtar som jag och vi hade skrivit så bestämde vi oss för att vi vill göra en CD med vår musik. Vi rekryterade sedan en gemensam vän Chris Stepniewski för att ta hand om sången och 1997 släppte vi vår debutskiva "Horde Of Worms" på Bloodbucket Productions. Strax efter utgivningen så kom även Gord McCubbin med i bandet och med den uppställningen spelade vi in vår andra skiva "Dreams And Dying Eyes" 1999. Efter utgivningen av det albumet så lämnade Chris bandet för att följa sina egna intressen och ersättaren blev Peter Cythrawl som tog hand om sången. Vi spelade sedan in vår tredje utgivning i formen av Mcd:n "Wormageddon". Under denna tid spelade vi även på konserter med band som t.ex. Mayhem, Cryptopsy, Enslaved, Macabre och många andra mycket bra band. Under den senare delen av året 2002 lämnade både Gord och Peter bandet p.g.a. musikaliska olikheter samt att de ville följa sina egna intressen. Just nu är uppställningen är mig själv på gitarr, sång och programmering och Brent på gitarr och bakgrundssång, vi håller för tillfället provspelningar för basister som vill ha en permanent plats i HOW. Just nu är vi i studion och spelar in vårt fjärde album "The Uncreation" som kommer att släppas denna sommar/höst på vårt skivbolag Bloodbucket Productions. Vår musik är en blandning av grind, black, death och speed metal, dock kallar vi det Canadian Blast Metal!!!

Hur har reaktionerna varit på er Mcd "Wormageddon" och vad tycker du själv om Mcd:n?

Alexander - Reaktionerna på Mcd:n "Wormageddon" har varit mycket goda. Det enda klagomålet har varit att den är för kort vilket dock var hela iden bakom den, kort och intensiv, något nytt för våra fans mellan utgivningen av fullängdarna. Vi är nöjda med den men känner att något fattas på den… mer kaos möjligen!??

Det har varit ganska stora ändringar i er line up. Vad är orsaken till det?

Alexander - Det är sant att det har förekommit ändringar i vår line up under årens gång. Vi har använt sessions sångare tills nu då jag tar hand om sången. Den föregående sångaren var inte villig att helhjärtat engagera sig Horde Of Worms så Brent och jag tröttnade på den sortens skit och att bli utnyttjad till att få andra personliga/musikaliska projekt att gå framåt. Vi har nu löst detta problem permanent. Vår långvariga basist hade inte tagit på allvar de upprepade varningarna om att förbättra sitt spelande och var vår enda oro för honom och för HOW. Olyckligtvis så var vi tvungna att sparka honom för att kunna utvecklas musikaliskt.

Är du nöjd med dagens line up eller söker ni efter nya band medlemmar?

Alexander - Vi är 100 % nöjda med den line up vi har och vi söker en ny basist som är beredd att ge 666 % både musikaliskt och personligt. Vi hade faktiskt en trummis men han dog (han blev ihjälslagen vilket var orsaken till varför han inte dök upp till träningarna och varför vi inte fick tag på honom… R.I.P.). Det finns helt enkelt ingen trummis i vår stad som kan och älskar att blasta…

Jag vet att du (Alexander) även spelar i bandet Visions Of The Night. Har ni andra band som ni spelar i?

Alexander - Låt oss säga såhär, jag spelar inte längre i det bandet och de har inte längre kontrakt med Bloodbucket Productions. Jag är iblandad i det sjuka goregrind bandet Scablord… Brent håller på med ett projekt som heter Kereshtur… Vår absoluta nummer ett prioritering är dock det mäktiga Horde Of Worms!!!

Kan du berätta lite om den uppkommande albumet "The Uncreation"

Alexander - Horde Of Worms fjärde skiva heter "The Uncreation" och den kommer att förinta alla som vågar lyssna på den!!! Den består av 13 låtar av det bästa materialet hittills i äkta Horde Of Worms stil… Blastande mörker och hyperblastande raseri!!!

Du är även personen bakom skivbolaget Bloodbucket Productions. Kan du berätta för läsarna lite mer om det?

Alexander - Jag/Vi tröttnade på att vänta på att "stora skivbolag" skulle svara så jag startade Bloodbucket Productions för att kunna ge ut vår musik. Bolaget började växa och vi började göra skivkontrakt med andra band samt distribuera sällsynt och exotisk brutalitet från hela världen! De band som Bloodbucket Productions har kontrakt med är Horde Of Worms, Castrum, Scablord och vi har nyligen skrivit kontrakt med Time Of Death… !!! Vi kommer att öppna ett europeiskt kontor mycket snart så att alla freak i Europa får bättre tillgång till Bloodbucket Producions varor! Vad är de framtida planerna för Horde Of Worms? Några konserter planerade?

Alexander - Vi släpper "The Uncreation" detta år och spelar några konserter för att stödja utgivningen. Framtiden ser ljus ut med utgivningen av en till Mcd 2004/2005 som följs upp av en 10 års jubileums album 2006!!! Från den punkten får vi se vad som händer. Vi hoppas kunna turnera Europa Syd Amerika och explodera live för alla våra fans!!!

Vad tycker du om metal scenen i Canada?

Den kanadensiska metal scenen frodas som den alltid har gjort. Vi har en lång historia av extrem metal som sträcker sig tillbaka till tidigt 80 och 90-tal med band som Razor, Exciter, Piledriver, Voivod, DBC, Slaughter, Blasphemy och Sacrifice för att nämna några. Nu finns det en ny generation med strålande band som t.ex. Horde Of Worms, Time Of Death…, Cryptopsy, Kataklysm, Rotting, Nitemare, Neuraxis, Myopia, Into Eternity, Revenge och många många fler… Kanadensiska fans är de sjukaste och mest fanatiska i världen!!!

Vilka band tycker du att har haft de största inflytandena på din musikaliska karriär?

Alexander - Denna fråga kan bli besvarad både för mej och för Brent med att säga att följande band har haft och har ännu inverkan på oss: Kiss, Venom, Bathory, det tyska triumviratet Destruction, Kreator och Sodom men även band som D.R.I och The Accused. Några av de diverse nyare band som Tsatthoggua, Immortal, Marduk, Krisuin, Enslaved, Angelcorpse, Impaled Nazarene, äldre Morbid Angel och Pestilence har alla öppnat våra öron för nya riken av intensitet. Vi tycker även om klassiskt och andra former av musik.

Vad har du för andra intressen än musik?

Alexander - Sammanlagt, så säger jag konst, målning, MotorX, skräck filmer, terräng cykling, öldrickande och rökning av hasch/gräs och liknande… Musiken är mycket tidskrävande för oss…

Och slutligen, en klassisk fråga. Varför korsade hönan vägen?

Alexander - Hönan korsade vägen för att undvika att bli reducerad till aska av det obevekliga intensiva blastandet av Horde Of Worms samt för att läsa denna intervju!!! The Canadian band Horde Of Worms is now on their third release with the Mcd "Wormageddon". I did a interview with the band member Alexander Erhardt to check what's happening on the other side of the Atlantic.

Firstly, can you tell the readers that haven't heard Horde Of Worms a little bit about the history of the band and what kind of music you play?

Alexander - Horde Of Worms was formed in the spring of 1996 by myself on guitar/programming and Brent Assoun on guitar. We were rehearsing songs that I and we had written and the decided we wanted to make a CD of our music. We then recruited a mutual friend Chris Stepniewski to handle the session vokills and in 1997 we released our self titled debut on Bloodbucket Productions. Soon after the release of the CD we hooked up with Gord McCubbin on bass guitar and with this line up we recorded our second album "Dreams And Dying Eyes" in 1999. After the release of said album Chris left the fold to persue his own interests and we found a replacement soon after in session vokillist Peter Cythrawl. The horde then recorded our third release in the form of the "Wormageddon" mcd. During this time we also played many live shows with the likes of Mayhem, Cryptopsy, Enslaved, Macabre and many other great bands. In the latter part of 2002 both Gord and
Peter were released from the line up due to musical differences and to persue personal interests. The current line up is myself on guitar/lead vokills/programming and Brent on guitar and backing vokills, we are currently auditioning bass players for a permanent spot in the horde. Presently, we are in the studio recording our fourth album titled "The Uncreation" which will be out this summer/autumn on our label Bloodbucket Productions. Our music is a mixture of grind, black, death and speed metal however, we call it Canadian Blast Metal!!!

What have the response on your Mcd "Wormageddon" been and what do you think about the Mcd?

Alexander - The response to the "Wormageddon" mcd has been great with the only real complaint being that it is too short... that was the whole idea behind it, short and intense, something new for our fans to go inbetween our full length releases. We are happy with it but feel there is something missing... more chaos maybe!!??

There have been quite big changes in the line up. What has been the reason for that?

Alexander - It is true that there have been some line up changes over the years. We have used session vokillists until now where as I handle the lead vokills. The previous vokillist's would not commit fully to Horde Of Worms, so Brent and I got tired of this kind of bullshit and being used to advance others personal/musical agendas. We now have permanently solved this problem. Our longtime bassist had not taken seriously enough his repeated warnings to improve his playing and was our only concern for him and the horde, unfortunately we had to terminate him in order to advance musically.

Are you happy with the line-up today or are you looking for new band members?

Alexander - We are 100% happy with the line up and are seeking a bassist who will give 666% musically and personally... We had a human drummer actually, but he died (he was beaten to death, which is why he had not showed up for rehearsals and why we had not heard from him...R.I.P.). There are simply no drummers in our city who can and love to blast...

I know that you (Alexander) are also playing in the band Visions Of The Night. Do you have any other bands that you are playing in?

Alexander - Let's just say, I no longer play in that band and they are no longer on Bloodbucket Productions. I am involved with the sick goregrinders Scablord... Brent is doing a project called Kereshtur... Our absolute number one priority musically however, IS the mighty Horde Of Worms!!!

Can you tell us something about your upcoming album "The Uncreation"?

Alexander - The fourth album from Horde Of Worms is called "The Uncreation" and it will annihilate those who dare listen to it!!! It contains 13 tracks of the strongest material we have to date in the true Horde Of Worms fashion... Blasting darkness and hyperblast fury!!!

You are also the persons behind the label Bloodbucket Productions. Can you tell the readers a little bit about that?

Alexander - I/We got sick and tired of waiting for "big labels" to respond so then I started Bloodbucket Productions to release our music. Things grew from there and we began to sign other bands to Bloodbucket Productions and distro hard to find and exotic brutality from the world over! The bands on Bloodbucket Productions are Horde Of Worms, Castrum, Scablord and we just signed Time Of Death... !!! We will be opening our European office very soon, so all the freaks in Europe will have easier access to Bloodbucket Productions merchandise! What are your plans for the future of Horde Of Worms? Any gigs planned?

Alexander - We will unleash "The Uncreation" this year and play some shows in support of this release. The future looks good with the release of another mcd in 2004/2005, followed by our 10 year jubilium album in 2006!!! We shall see what happens from that point on. We hope to eventually tour Europe and S.America and detonate live for all our fans!!!

What do you think about the metal scene in Canada?

The Canadian metal scene is thriving as it always has. We have a long history of extreme metal dating back to the early 80's/90's with the likes of Razor, Exciter, Piledriver, Voivod, DBC, Slaughter, Blasphemy and Sacrifice to name a few. Now there are a new breed of excellent bands like Horde Of Worms, Time Of Death..., Cryptopsy, Kataklysm, Rotting, Nitemare, Neuraxis, Myopia, Into Eternity, Revenge and many many more... Canadian fans are the sickest and most rabid in the world!!!

Which bands do you think have had the most impact on your musical careers?

Alexander - That question can be answered for both Brent and myself by saying the following bands have had and still have an impact for us are: Kiss, Venom, Bathory, the German triumvirate of Destruction, Kreator and Sodom as well as bands like D.R.I and The Accused. Some of the various newer metal bands like Tsatthoggua, Immortal, Marduk, Krisiun, Enslaved,
Angelcorpse, Impaled Nazarene, old Morbid Angel and Pestilence have all opened our ears to new realms of intensity. We also enjoy classical and various other form of music.

What are your other interests except from music?

Alexander - Collectively, I will say that art, painting, MotorX, horror movies, mountain biking, drinking beer and smoking hash/weed and the like... Music really is all consuming for us...

And finally, a classical question. Why did the chicken cross the road?

Alexander - The chicken crossed the road in order to avoid being reduced to ashes by the relentless blasting intensity of Horde Of Worms and to read this interview!!!
